It's October, so it's time for the annual fall geisha dance performances in Kyoto. Onshukai started a few days ago in Gion Kobu, and Mizuekai will start in a few more days in Miyagawa-cho. Photography is unfortunately not permitted at either event, but I was able to photograph the geiko Kimina at Mizuekai in 2007 and 2008. This photo is from the spring scene from the 2007 Mizuekai, and other photos of the same dance appeared in my book Geisha &Maiko of Kyoto: Beauty, Art, & Dance (2009).
