Gion Odori in the Spotlight
The spotlight fades on the geisha Tsunemomo at the end of the fourth scene of the 2011 Gion Odori, "In the Zashiki." Tsunemomo was playing the "Doll of a Court Lady," and the paper she is holding in her left hand is a poem she has written about the moon.
Gion Odori runs from November 1 - 10 every year at the Gion Kaikan in Kyoto, which is a movie theater the rest of the time that shows double features of Japanese and Western films.
This year's odori starts tomorrow, and there are usually still a few tickets available at the ticket booth each day. If you do not have tickets yet but would still like to attend, I recommend that you try any day except Saturday and Sunday, November 3 and 4. Those are usually the busiest days, while Mondays and Tuesdays are usually the slowest.
