The Reddest Alley in Kyoto
One of my favorite places to photograph in Kyoto is a small alley between Ponto-cho and Kiyamachi Dori (two of Kyoto's most famous streets). This one tiny restaurant has three red lanterns on either side of the door that bathe the narrow passageway with a brilliant reddish-yellow glow. I couldn't believe my eyes the first time I happened by, and I've been back many times since then. My advice to anyone visiting Kyoto is when you happen upon one of these many, many narrow alleys, take at least a few minutes to explore it. You'll almost always be pleasantly surprised by what you find.
