Miyako Odori 2012, Scene Six: The Setting Sun in Ohara
Several geisha and maiko including Mamehana (center) prepare to put on their tenugui (scarves) in scene six of this year's Miyako Odori, "The Setting Sun in Ohara." According to the program, "The sixth scene with colored leaves is about Kenreimon-In, mother of the late Emperor Antoku, who experienced the rise and fall of the Heike clan." Scene six each year is always connected to maple leaves, which change color in Kyoto in November. We have almost reached the end of the Miyako Odori cycle. Scene seven has a winter theme, and then Miyako Odori ends as it begins, with cherry blossoms.
