Kyo Odori in Miyagawa-cho

Fukuhina-at-Kyo-Odori-1

Seven days after Miyako Odori begins in Gion Kobu, Kyo Odori starts in Miyagawa-cho. This year Kyo Odori runs from April 7 - 22, and there are three shows daily at 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. Kyo Odori is not as big a tourist attraction as Miyako Odori and the theater in Miyagawa-cho is much more intimate than the Gion Kobu Kaburenjo, so Kyo Odori has a much different atmosphere than its more famous counterpart. I always feel more involved in Kyo Odori simply because I am much closer to the action, as this photo of the maiko Fukuhina dancing in the 2007 Kyo Odori illustrates.
