The maiko Fukunami of Miyagawa-cho leaves Yasaka Shrine after performing during Setsubun in 2005. Of the four maiko from Miyagawa-cho who danced that day, only Kosen and Fukuteru remain in the Karyukai. Fukunami became a geisha for about a year before she retired. I had the chance to photograph her a few times in 2007, and I will be posting some of those photos throughout the year. I think Fukunami was the shyest geiko I have encountered, and I hope she is doing well now wherever life has taken her since she left Miyagawa-cho.
